Our First Year: Building Community in Agawam

Our First Year: Building Community in Agawam

One year in, a look back at what we've built together in Agawam — and where we're headed.

·Next Level CoWork

In May 2026, Next Level CoWork celebrated its first year in Agawam, Massachusetts — and what a year it's been. When we opened in May 2025, we had a building, a plan, and a hope that Western Mass wanted a coworking space it could call its own. Twelve months later, we have something better: a real community. Here's a look back at our first year and a look ahead at what's next.

Where we started

We opened with a simple conviction — that the freelancers, remote workers, and entrepreneurs of Agawam, Springfield, and the Northern Connecticut line deserved a professional home base without driving toward Hartford or Northampton to find one. We had our rooms ready: the Launch Pad, the Think Tank, the Echo Chamber, and the Lounge. What we didn't know yet was who would walk through the door.

The answer turned out to be wonderful, and varied.

The people who showed up

The best part of year one has been the mix. On a typical day, the space holds designers, financial advisors, consultants, salespeople, software builders, and small business owners — people at every stage, from first-time freelancers to teams that have started to hire.

What surprised us most was how quickly strangers became a community. The casual conversations in the Lounge turned into referrals. The person at the next desk became a sounding board. A few members found collaborators, and more than a few found friends. That's the thing you can't manufacture on opening day — it has to grow, and over the year, it did.

What we learned

A first year teaches you plenty. A few of the lessons that stuck:

  • Flexibility matters most. Members value being able to start with a day pass, settle into a dedicated desk, and grow into a private office as their needs change. The ability to move between plans is a feature, not an afterthought.
  • Community is the product. People come for the desk and stay for the people. The Lounge and our gatherings did more to retain members than any amenity.
  • Local is a strength. Being genuinely of Agawam — not a franchise — gave the space an authenticity members noticed and appreciated.

Gratitude

None of this works without the members. Thank you to everyone who took a chance on a brand-new space, brought a friend, hosted an event, made an introduction, or simply showed up and did great work alongside everyone else. You turned a building into Next Level CoWork. We're genuinely grateful.

What's next

Year two is about doing more of what worked and deepening the community we've built. More gatherings in the Lounge. More opportunities for members to connect and grow their businesses. And the same welcoming, "level up" spirit that's defined us from day one — now with a year of relationships behind it.

We're also still growing, which means there's room for you. If you've been thinking about leaving the kitchen table or the coffee shop behind, there's no better time to join a community that's hitting its stride.

A note to anyone still on the fence

If you've read this far and you're still working from the kitchen table or a noisy café, consider this your invitation. Year one taught us that the people who hesitate the longest are often the ones who, once they finally join, wish they'd done it sooner. The hesitation usually isn't about money or logistics — it's the inertia of "I'll get around to it." We understand it. We also watched a year's worth of members push past it and not look back.

You don't have to commit to anything big to start. A single day in the space is enough to feel whether it's for you — whether the focus, the quiet hum of other people working, and the easy conversations in the Lounge change your day for the better. Every member who now treats this place as a second home started with exactly that: one visit, one ordinary workday, made noticeably better by the room and the people in it. There's no pressure and no perfect moment to wait for. The door's open, the coffee's on, and there's a seat with your name on it whenever you're ready.
